“Holding a grudge is like letting someone live rent-free in your head.”

This is so true! I love this quote because it reminds us to take back our power. A wise person remembers that holding a grudge hurts them more than the person they are holding it against.
Grudges come in all shapes and sizes. Just this morning I caught myself waking up and holding a tiny one over the way a friend reacted to my telling her something about her behavior. I was simply trying to make her aware but I think she perceived it as an insult, and it resulted in us having an unnecessary verbal exchange that left a bad taste in my mouth. This morning I was still carrying it and I had to check myself right away because:
1) It’s not worth the energy;
2) I don’t want it to set the tone for my day;
3) I love my friend and I don’t want to choose to be upset with her; and, most importantly,
4) That’s not the kind of person I want to be! Beyond all of this, I’m not OK with anyone living rent-free in my head. This is a good way for us to check ourselves and let things go.
