“Nothing gives one person so much advantage over another as to remain cool and unruffled under all circumstances.”
-Thomas Jefferson
I really like this quote because it’s a reminder to carry your own weather (a concept from The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People book). Only YOU hold the power to decide how something affects you. Don’t allow another to ruffle your feathers. Whenever you start to have a shift in how you’re feeling, check yourself and remember to remain cool. Consciously work on it. When you really pay attention, you’ll start tonotice that you hand over your power more than you realize.
I’d suggest that you come up with some short phrase to say to yourself whenever someone else is about to trigger you or attempt to make you lose your cool. Say it inwardly to yourself, repeatedly if you need to, so you don’t hand your power over to another. Maintain mental and emotional balance in all your endeavors.
